Our little Hadley has been with us for a whole year now. Crazy, I remember just the other day we were down at the hospital and the nurses handed us a little pruney, purple, goop-covered baby and said, "here, you made this, congrats."
This last year has been a crazy one. We've learned how to be parents and care for a little human. It has also amazed us how natural it has all been.
Hadley is like one of those super balls. You know, you throw it against the wall and it just keeps bouncing off the ceiling, wall, floor, and just keeps going and never stops. She's been fun.
Hadley had a couple special guests for her first birthday, her Gma Rae and Meemaw Bennett were here to celebrate with us. Needless to say Hadley got plenty of attention and absolutely soaked it all up and thrived on it. She is quite the little entertainer.
The first activity for the day was to go to a splash pad. Little problem with that was it rained during the early morning, so we had to wait for the weather to improve. We first went to a park near downtown Everett because according to their website they have a kiddie splash pad thing. Well, we showed up and all it was was a few streams of water shooting out the ground. It was actually pretty lame. Not only that, but Hadley fell asleep on the drive to the park, so she didn't even know we went there.
We then headed to Willis Tucker Park because we had heard there was a splash pad there, and saw the pictures to confirm it. Well, we got there at about 2:10pm. Something we learned once we got there is that the splash pad closes every day from 2 to 3pm for maintenance. Some things you just have to laugh at. So far nothing for her b-day was going as planned.
She wanted to run around, so we sat and watched her. Then we were there long enough we decided to just stay and wait until 3pm.
I'm glad we waited. Hadley was very unsure about the whole thing at first.
With a little moral support from mommy, she was able to ease into it.
She started to remember she likes water.
Once she got going, she was all over that splash pad.
Mommy got in on some of the action as well.
The splash pad turned out to be a huge hit with this little girl. She had an absolute blast.
Emily was going through the closet and found the sweatshirt we used to announce Emily's pregnancy with Hadley, so it was only fitting to put it on her.
PRESENTS!!!
Over the past few months Emily has been working on a climbing wall because this little girl loves to climb on stuff. We finished it up last week and I must say it turned out very nicely. She wasted no time trying it out.
I think she approves.
She also got a slide, bubble machine, toy camera, and some bath toys.
CAKE!!!
We made her wacky cake with glossy frosting. She was a little hesitant, but got into it eventually. She was also kind of confused about what was going on. Why is there a cake with fire? Why is everyone singing? Why isn't the cake in my mouth yet?

The next day, after church, lunch, and a nap, we headed out to the nearby park to take some nice pictures of Hadley. She's still a little too young to really cooperate, so we kind of had to work with what she gave us. Luckily we came away with some good ones.
This little girl had a great birthday. Not only did she get to do some fun things, eat cake, and open some awesome gifts, we made her favorite dinner of creamy noodles with broccoli and chicken.
We have been extremely blessed to have her sweetness in our lives. The happiness she entered this world with has been something we've enjoyed every day since. We are looking forward to celebrating many many many more birthdays with our little miss Hadley Jean.
