One of the things we were looking forward to when we bought the house was having enough space for family to come and visit. It's kind of hard to host people when you're confined to a small apartment. Emily's sister, Shannon, drove up with her boys to party for a few days.
Hadley, who loves playing with other kids, thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend some time with her cousins. When the weather cooperated, they were able to run around the backyard and play in the little splash pad to cool down.
Since our little playground is getting replaced, we took an evening stroll over to the one that was recently installed in the new development currently going in just up the road a little. It isn't very big, but for the girls it's enough to play on for about 5 minutes before getting bored with it.
Not too far from where we live is a reptile zoo that has all kinds of animals. They showcase an albino alligator and a two-headed turtle. We took the kids there on a Saturday morning to go check it out. Thane told Shannon he was going to see a rattle snake, and Shannon kept telling him there wouldn't be any rattle snakes. Well, one of the first things you see when you walk through is a few rattle snakes. So, he was pretty happy.
Fun fact: There are apparently no venomous snakes on the West side of the Cascade Mtn Range. That's what I've been told, at least, by someone I don't remember.
It smelled just about what you'd think it would smell like.
We were actually surprised with just how many reptiles there were. It was pretty cool. The kids also had fun, which made it worth it.
On Monday we headed over to Osprey Park to walk the trails that take you to the Sultan River. It's not the main river in town, but it's still a neat little river with some easy trails for the kids.
Throwing rocks in the river was fun and all, but what they really wanted was to get in themselves. We didn't take an extra change of clothes or towels, but we will every time after.
We rolled up their pants and told them that's as deep as they get to go. They didn't seem to mind how cold it was.
Then Syl just walked in, and that was a whole thing, but it didn't seem to phase him any.
It sure was a fun few days with them in town, and the girls certainly enjoyed having someone else to play with.
