We had been looking for a preschool for Hadley for the past year and hadn't been able to find one that we thought would work. Sultan Elementary offers a pre-k, but we didn't qualify for it.
Emily then discovered that Gold Bar Elementary offered a transitional kindergarten, but we didn't know what that meant or how it differed from pre-k. Emily called for more info and ended up scheduling Hadley for an admission interview because they enrolled 15 kids. Hadley did great in the interview by showing her letter, number, shape, and color recognition.
A few weeks later we got the email letting us know she made the cut. We were nervous because this meant 6.5 hours everyday for Hadley. We weren't sure how she'd adjust to such a drastic schedule change.
Well, adjusting didn't take long at all. She loved it right away and it didn't appear to be a long day for her. Weirdly, she came home more energized than we were expecting. We thought spending all day at school would wear her out, but it seems to have the opposite effect on her.
Finally, after a month of waiting, we got her school picture.
We've seen a huge improvement just in the couple of months she's been in school. She went from not writing any numbers and letters to being able to write her name. She went from scribble coloring to coloring in the lines while using multiple colors, and now flesh-tone colors when coloring skin on people. Her fine-motor skills in general have improved a lot. And best of all, she's been able to have a lot more social interactions and has made some friends. It's been fun to watch other kids greet her in the morning and say good-bye to her after school.
She's enjoyed school a lot. It was definitely a good decision for her to attend.
