Mount Rainier and Other Stuff

One of the things we've been meaning to do for a while now is to go visit Mount Rainier, or as Cambri likes to call it, the mountain on the license plate.

We felt a good time to go was while I was on paternity leave, but while adjusting to life with a newborn, it was a little difficult to find the right day, and the end of my leave was coming up quick. Finally, it was suggested we go for our anniversary (July 10th).

And of course, it was the one day all week that it was overcast. That didn't stop us, though, and is a good reason for a follow-up visit in the future. We packed some lunches and bottles, and head out early in the morning. It took nearly three hours to get there, and when we did, it was extremely difficult to find an open parking spot at the visitor center. We couldn't even take advantage of having a handicap tag, everything was filled, and then some. A lot of people were actually parked illegally. So after circling for probably 15 minutes, we got a spot.

I'm not going to lie, this visitor center was pretty underwhelming. Kids thought it was cool enough, and that's really what mattered.

It was a low-visibility day, otherwise you'd see Rainier in these pics.

We went on a short and, unexpectedly, steep hike to Myrtle Falls. It was paved, but still.

Emily kicked the stroller in 4WD and charged up the incline.

And again, imagine this with Mount Rainier dominating the background.

After we got back to the parking lot we drove down to another spot where we could stop for lunch. Afterwards, we headed down to Reflection Lake, but there wouldn't be anything for it to reflect today.

It kind of made it one of those deals where we had more places we could've gone and seen, but since we could see anything, decided to just see it next time. So, we decided to call it a day.

Before leaving, we stopped at Narada Falls. Emily took the girls down the trail to the lookout while I fed Bristol. It was until they got back and reported on it that I knew how steep and muddy the trail would be.

The girls found a hollowed-out tree that they thought was pretty cool.

Not sure what's going on with these poses.

Surprisingly, only Harlow ended up muddy, and that's mostly because she was jumping in the puddles.

We stopped off at Chick-Fil-A for dinner in Renton, then hit up Cold Stone in Factoria.

My Bristol jersey for Father's Day finally came in the mail.

Bristol is getting used to baths now. She cried all through her first one, but now she just lays there completely content and unbothered.

Anytime Bristol starts crying, Crewe is always there to make sure she has her pacifier.

Sometimes he does get a little jealous, as to be expected.

We watched the MLB All-Star game, and I like to think Crewe's catching the drug that is sports.

Summer means the girls constantly ask to turn the sprinkler on underneath the trampoline. We also fill up the water table, just for Harlow and Crewe to take turns scooping and dumping the water out.

Bristol's neck strength is coming along quite nicely.
