Oregon Coast

It was mid-November, and we were in need of a getaway. We opted to take the girls down to the Oregon coast for a few days, and Seaside seemed to be a good option. The forecast wasn't promising, but what else would you expect in mid-November on the Oregon coast? 

 

I got off work early on Thursday, and we made the drive down in what ended up being a massive rain storm that slowed things down a little bit. When we got to Seaside we hit up the Pig 'N Pancake for dinner, and while there we overheard someone say the rain caused some flooding that shutdown some of the roads leading to town. So we made it just ahead of that.

We opted to stay at the Ebb Tide Inn, which, wasn't the nicest place, but the location and separate bedroom for the girls was sure convenient. We were right on the Prom, which made for a nice easy walk to the beach or downtown shops and restaurants.

The rain was off and on, as was the wind. When we hit up the beach on Friday morning, both were on. And so, we didn't really last too long. Everything we were wearing got soaked pretty quickly.

 

 

 

 

For the first little while, at least, the girls didn't seem to mind.

 

 

One of Hadley's favorite things to do at the beach is walk out to the water and run from the waves. She always takes Emily along for this activity. At least this time we remembered to take some boots, well, except me. 

 

 

 Due to the weather, Friday was filled with indoor activities. The girls enjoyed all the swimming they could handle. There was an aquarium right next to our hotel, so the girls got to see some fish and feed some seals. We also hit up the outlet mall for some outfits from Carter's for the girls. You can't have too many Paw Patrol and Elsa shirts, right? We then went to a bowling alley the next town over, which was the first time we've taken the girls bowling. They thought it was a hoot (see video below), but were also ready to go after one game. I think they were more tired than anything. 

 

We enjoyed lunch at a pretty good pizza place back in Seaside. Pretty much anytime we eat out and ask Hadley where she wants to go, she'll say pizza. 

For the last few times we've tried to get Emily some lobster or crab, they've been out of season. Luckily we found a place in town that had some crab, so we hit up Dooger's Seafood & Grill for dinner.

We woke up Saturday to some pretty decent weather. The sun was out and the wind had stopped. We took that opportunity to head to the beach for a photo op. As per usual, we tried our best to capture the both girls cooperating at the same time.

 

 

 

We've come to accept that these are just the way our pictures are going to be, and will capture our family as is. So as chaotic as that may be, that's us.

 

 

It doesn't mean we don't get some good shots, though.

 

So much beach to run around.

 

After some fun on the beach in Seaside, we headed a little South to Cannon Beach, the home of Haystack Rock. The great weather persisted, and the girls were more than overjoyed to have another beach to run around on.

 

Hadley likes taking photos, so Emily had her try to take one of us. She did pretty good.

 

After running around on the beach, we headed into town to find somewhere to eat. Everywhere was weirdly busy, but we ended up finding a little taco shack that turned out to be pretty meh. As we headed back to Seaside we could see some rain clouds following us. By the time we got back it had started raining again.

For the rest of the day we just kind of hungout in the hotel for a while. The girls got to swimming again, and for a little had the pool to themselves, but all of a sudden waves of people started showing up. So, we decided to head back up to the room and eat some leftover pizza for dinner.

 

Hadley overheard Emily talking about getting ice cream from a parlor we saw downtown, and from then on Hadley was hell-bent on making sure that happened. Every response to everything was, "and then we'll go get ice cream?"

 

We made her a deal that we couldn't go until she ate her dinner. Once she realized that was the only obstacle standing in her way of cotton candy ice cream, she stuffed the whole quesadilla in her mouth. 

We threw the girls in the stroller and walked the few blocks to Sea Star Gelato for that ice cream.

It was pretty good. Most of their flavors were of the coffee variety, but we got some good ones. Of course, after we ordered and sat down, they put out the peanut butter chocolate chunk one.

 

 

After the ice cream we took a stroll through downtown and some of the shops. At the massive candy store the girls each snagged a giant sucker (which they've still yet to finish), and Emily took advantage of the pay-by-weight wall of candy.

Sunday morning we packed up and headed back home. It was a good trip, one that was much needed to kind of just reset and relax. Always fun to go on a carefree weekend getaway.
